Chevening is a scholarship programme that was launched in 1983, as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Award Scheme, since then over 50,000 professionals have studied in the UK with the help of Chevening. Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship awards program aimed at developing and building leaders from all around the world.
Chevening is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organizations. There are basically two types of award offered by chevening namely; Chevening Scholarship and Chevening Fellowship.
Chevening Scholarships enable exceptional students with excellent leadership qualities from around the world to obtain a fully funded one-year master’s degree in the UK. These scholarship funds covers flight, accommodation and course fee.
Chevening Fellowship are offered to a group of people called “Fellows.” Fellows are often people of significant standing in their home countries and will usually have completed some element(s) of higher education already. Fellows are offered dynamic training, professional development, or opportunities to spend time in the UK researching subject matters that are relevant to their professional interests, as well as to the UK’s international strategic priorities. Chevening Fellowship are offered to mid-career professionals who have reached a position of influence and want to increase their knowledge, network and potentials through tailored short courses, research or professional placements at UK institutions.
Everyone is encouraged to apply, so far you have a undergraduate degree and you meet their eligibility criteria and other requirements. There is no upper age limit, your gender, sexual orientation, religion, marriage or parenthood status, caste, class, or other attributes don’t matter. What matters is your ability to submit a thoughtful application that demonstrates you are capable of excelling in an intense master’s course in the UK, and to have a clear vision for your future. The Chevening English Language Proficiency requirement was removed in 2020, however, candidates will still need to fulfil all requirements from their chosen institution and secure an offer of admission from one of their three course choices before the selection deadline.
The Application period for the 2023/2024 scholarship opens on the 2nd of August.
The selection process takes around 8 months from the application deadline before applicants can receive emails of conditional selection for the scholarship award.

- Complete the quiz to assure your eligibility for the scholarship.
- Fill the application with the required data and prepare the following documents:
- Complete education document
- Conditional offers for proposed courses of study(up to three)
- Unconditional offers for proposed courses of study(up to three)
- References (if you are invited to interview you will be invited to upload two references)
- Passport /ID document
- Submit the application
