Escape from Mogadishu: An award winning Korean film

Escape from Mogadishu is a South Korean action drama film directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and starring Kim Yoon-seok, Jo In-sung, Heo Joon-ho, and Kim So-jin, which was released in 2021.
The political drama from South Korea is based on true events and takes place in the late 1980s and early 1990s, during the Somali Civil War and the north and south Koreans’ efforts to join the United Nations. It describes a perilous attempt by North and South Korean embassy workers stranded during the conflict to flee the country.

It was South Korea’s Oscar entry for best international feature and has that polished, high-quality feel to it. The third act, which culminates in an action movie car chase through war-zone chaos, is what makes the download price worthwhile.

Lotte Entertainment’s Escape from Mogadishu opened in theaters on July 28, 2021, to generally positive reviews from critics who praised the film’s action scenes, humorous plot, direction, and consistent acting performances.

According to a report from American media outlet Screen Daily, the film ranked fifth at the worldwide box office in the first week of August 2021. It surpassed 3.5 million admissions in 56 days, making it the first Korean film to do so in 2021.

According to the Korean Film Council, it was the second highest-grossing film of 2021 in South Korea, with a gross of US$29 million and 3.61 million admissions on December 31, 2021.

Escape from Mogadishu was chosen as South Korea’s entry for the 94th Academy Awards’ Best International Feature Film category, but it was not nominated.
It also took home six awards at the 30th Buil Film Awards and the 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards, including ‘Best Film.’

It was named Most Popular Film and Koo Kyo-hwan was named Most Popular Star at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Overall, it has received twenty-five awards at various award ceremonies.

Not watching escape from Mogadishu is like having an escape from a good movie experience. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to miss this.
