Death on the Nile

Death on the Nile is a movie based on a crime novel by Agatha Christie (1890-1976). The movie was released on the 11th day of February 2022, Directed by Kenneth Branagh. It has a running time of approximately 2hr and 7mins, it falls under the genre of Mystery/Crime. The film is a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express (2017) but can be watched as a standalone.

The film starts in world war 1, showing a young Hercule Poirot during his military days. Shortly after, his face is disfigured by a booby trap, his fiancee, Katherine advices him to grow a beard, to hide the scar.

The scene changes to 1937, London. Hercule Poirot is a renowned detective and he is sighted at a club with a beard, watching a blues singer Salome Otterbourne perform. Also present at the club is Jacqueline de Bellefort and Simon Doyle a pair of engaged lovers passionately dancing to the music. Arriving the club a little later is the golden girl, Linnet Ridgeway, an heiress and an old friend of Jacqueline. Jacqueline took no time to show Linnet that she was engaged while saying, ‘Honestly I’ll die if I don’t be Mrs Doyle.’

Jacqueline asked Linnet to offer Simon a job, as he had nothing doing and knew a lot about estates. Simon comes around with a drink for Linnet and is introduced by Jacqueline to Linnet who offers him the job as her new land agent. An overjoyed Jacqueline urges Simon to take Linnet to the dance floor and thank her properly.

Six weeks later, Hercule Poirot who is vacating in Egypt, or so he claims, encounters an old friend in the person of Bouc who invites him to join he and his mother Euphemia to a wedding which happened to be the wedding of Simon Doyle and the ever charming golden girl Linnet Ridgeway.

The wedding/honeymoon trip is attended by Linnet’s cousin and manager of accounts Andrew Katchadourian, Linnet’s godmother Marie Van Schuyler and her nurse Mrs Bowers, Doctor Linus Windlesham, Linnet’s maid Louise Bourget, Blues singer, Salome Otterbourne and lastly her niece/manager Rosalie, Linnet’s schoolfriend. An uninvited guest in a beautiful red dress makes it to the wedding, Voila! Jacqueline de Bellefort.

A murder occurs, a killer is on the loose, but remember ‘When you have money no one is really your friend.’ When everyone has a motive, is this too big a case for Hercule Poirot?
