Regular Coffee vs. Alkaline/Herbal Coffee

 

Coffee should be man’s next best friend right after puppies, they do so much or let’s say a large number of the global workforce and the average adult human depends so much on coffee to run on a daily.

There are many habitual coffee drinkers, and there are so many delicious varieties of coffee drink recipes out there; assorted options of milks, creams, syrups, and mix-ins to go.

However, in all this caffeine rave we have to seek the healthier option. In today’s article I present to you Herbal and Alkaline coffee and also the edge these have over your regular stuff.

 

Regular Coffee

 

Coffee is gotten from coffee beans; they are roasted and ground before brewing. The decaffeinated coffee is made by extracting caffeine from the beans in the factory before roasting, decaffeination can be carried out by soaking the beans in hot water but this is just one way to decaffeinate coffee beans.

Coffee aside from its stimulating effect, delicious taste and a few minerals it has no much nutritional value, it is low in calorie by itself and of course with addition of milk, cream…etc. the calories increase.

It contains polyphenols, which has anti-oxidizing properties.

Harmful effects of Coffee

 

Most of the negative effects of coffee come from over consumption and habitual consumption.

  • It can lead to the following;
  • Restlessness
  • Hyperactivity
  • Dependence
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Lowers the body PH, this can result in acid reflux and heartburn.
  • Because major varieties of coffee are acidic it can aggravate heartburns and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

 

Herbal/Alkaline Coffee

 

Firstly, what is Herbal coffee? Herbal coffee is coffee that is usually organic and decaffeinated, then further enhanced with herbs, spices and seeds. Some common additives are Maca, Moringa, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Ginseng, Chicory…etc.

Then, what is Alkaline Coffee? Alkaline coffee is a special kind of coffee, still made from coffee beans but the final product is developed to produce coffee with a healthier PH level.

 

Benefits of Herbal/Alkaline Coffee

 

  • The benefits that come with herbal is usually based on the effects of the kinds of herbs, roots, spices and seeds used.
  • These are loaded with nutrients and phytonutrients.
  • They promote overall health.
  • They have a higher PH level, with combats the acidity problem with regular coffee.
  • It does not contain caffeine.
  • It gives energy boost.
  • It is a good alternative for those trying to get over caffeine addiction.
  • Alkaline drinks can help improve immunity.
  • It can aid digestion.

When buying or consuming herbal products, ensure the product is FDA (Food and Drug Administration). There are claims that herbal products generally tend to contain chemical compounds that are could be harmful, but tested products that meet FDA standards are safe for consumption.

Some herbal drinks tend to lower blood pressure, so if you are not quite aiming for that be careful what you consume, know your health and dietary needs and discuss new products you would like to try out you’re your dietician/nutritionist/doctor.
