Drink enough water daily is not a new rule or advice, we have heard this countless time from doctors, models, athletes, beauticians and co.
All this fuss is because the benefits are countless and it cannot be over emphasized, from digestive health to skin, to our joints and generally, to keep the body running well.
Drinking enough water daily is an essential practice, but sadly, there are some people that have a poor habit of not drinking up to the required amount of water daily.
What is the required amount for daily intake of water?
The required amount is a bit fluid (pun intended hehe), some factors determining the required amount are age, activity, weather, sex, diet….
Drinking about 8 glasses a day (2 liters) isn’t exactly wrong it just doesn’t meet everyone’s need. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men. About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women…. read more on this.
Staying hydrated is not a reason to drink a drum or drown yourself, just pay attention, the body is very capable of handling things and even reminding you to drink water. Drink more when you need more, while passing out too much fluid, replenish by drinking water, when your urine is too dark, if the weather is too hot etc. replenish lost fluid.
Tips to stay hydrated
- Drink water
- Eat fruits
- Eat enough veggies
- Drink juice
- Have some yoghurt
- Drink some tea or coffee or milk
- Too much salt intake will cause dehydration, watch it.
In summary; try to drink water, replenish as you observe signs of dehydration (thirst, darker colored urine), eat your fruits and veggies (some high moisture containing fruits are cucumbers, watermelons, pineapples etc., for veggies lettuces, cabbage, carrots etc.). Other fluids too help you stay hydrated e.g. tea, coffee, milk etc. opt for some fresh fruit juice instead of the packaged fruit juice that has too much sugar, you can blend some fruits and veggies together, you can add some blended or chopped fruit to your water to give it some flavor and help you drink more water, and remember, consuming too much salt will make you dehydrated.
